Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has finally opened up on his bitter fall out with Deputy President William Ruto.
In an interview with a local publication, the Laikipia county boss stated that he fell out with the DP in 2017 over the dissolution of the Party of National Unity (PNU).
Muriithi noted that his indifferences with DP Ruto who was Jubilee nominations manager at the time saw him being denied a nomination ticket in the 2017 General Elections.
"Everyone knows who resides at the Karen office where the 2017 nominations were managed. He demanded to know why I was opposed to the folding of PNU and this is what I told him to his face, 'look I cannot give you the permission to fold PNU because I don't own the party'
"Later we saw some people being photographed saying PNU has been disbanded," the governor stated.
Muriithi said he proceeded to the Political Parties Tribunal arguing that he had won the nominations, but it turned out that the tribunal was compromised and the ticket given to his competitor.
"It was evident that I won the nomination, but officials told me that they were told that I should not get the ticket
"The Political Parties Disputes Resolution Tribunal also found out that I had won but the ticket was given to my competitor," Muriithi added.
The governor resorted to contesting for the Laikipia gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate and won.
"From the pattern of nominations, it was clear that there was a scheme to put in place people who would resist order
"But to people like us who have principles, we could not buy that... I proved them wrong. The people of Laikipia knew who their choice is," Muriithi added.
Muriithi was recently appointed to chair Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga's 2022 presidential campaign board.
The ODM boss announced the appointment in a statement on Wednesday, January 5 where he also credited Muriiithi for milestones he has achieved during his reign.
"Governor Murithi was instrumental in the drive to have the derelict Nairobi-Nanyuki and Gilgil-Nyahururu railway lines rehabilitated
"He is the current finance, planning and economic affairs committee chairperson of the Council of Governors elected in January 2021," the statement read.
