The two suspected robbers had disguised themselves as passengers when they were being ferried to Kawangware stage 56.

A boda boda rider breathed his last on Wednesday after he was attacked by two men who had masqueraded as passengers.

Mogaka Chacha, a 31-year-old boda boda rider who operates between Kangemi and Kawangware area was stabbed in a melee that ensued when the two men attempted to grab his motorbike from him with an aim of taking it away.

The two men were being ferried to Kawangware stage 56 when the tragedy occurred.

"On reaching the Muslim area, the pillion passengers turned on Mogaka and stabbed him as they tried to gain control of his motorbike and rob it from him," DCI said.

The deceased is said to have put in a spirited fight to ward off the attackers and save his source of livelihood.

Curious motorcyclists abandoned their trips midway and came to his aid after discovering something was amiss. 

One of the thugs escaped leaving his accomplice in the hands of angry members of the public who pounced on him with kicks and blows.

"Police officers from Muthangari police station rushed to the scene and rescued the robber before the infuriated ‘nduthi’," DCI said.

He is currently admitted at Kenyatta national hospital, where his life hangs in the balance.

Meanwhile, detectives based at Dagoretti are in hot pursuit of the suspect who escaped.
