Boda boda riders in Chepareria, West Pokot county staged demos over alleged unpaid dues for escorting Deputy President William Ruto during his visit. 

The deputy president and his team visited the area on January 21, 2022 and a section of boda boda riders were mobilised to escort him to his rally. 

Led by West Pokot Boda Boda Riders Chairperson Moses Lotasiwa, the riders accused the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) of shortchanging them by failing to pay as agreed.  

The riders urged DP Ruto to intervene and settle the matter failure to which they will proceed to court. 

"Nataka nimwambie Deputy President William Ruto, sisi watu wa Chepareria, tulitumia mafuta yetu mnakukalisha hjyo muda yote na sisi tuko na piki piki ya loan

"Tulikaa masaa tano mpaka wakati ulimaliza mkutano mwishowe hatukuona mafuta," Moses said. 

This comes a month after small-scale traders in Makueni County protested after KSh 2 million donated by DP Ruto disappeared in the hands of coordinators.

The traders mainly made up of boda boda riders and mama mbogas accused coordinators whom the DP had trusted with tbe money of shortchanging them. 

"For us, we even organised ourselves but those conmen who are hiding in UDA say they distributed the money in a police station but that is not true," a boda boda rider claimed.
