Wanjiru is said to have confronted Sakaja accusing him of inciting the crowd to frustrate her as she was making her remarks.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru on Tuesday, February 1 engaged in a heated spat during a rally in Westlands, Nairobi.

Sakaja and Wanjiru are contesting for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat under the Amani National Congress (ANC) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) tickets respectively.

During the rally, Wanjiru is said to have confronted Sakaja accusing him of inciting the crowd to frustrate her as she was making her remarks.

"I deserve respect, we are both leaders here in Nairobi," Wanjiru confronted Sakaja.

In his response, Sakaja denied inciting the crowd to jeer at Wanjiru, further pleading with the crowd to give everyone an opportunity to talk.

"Everyone has a right to be listened to, please let’s stop this," Sakaja told the crowd.

In November 2021, Sakaja declared his interest to vie for Nairobi Governor’s seat maintaining that he will not step down in favour of any other candidate.

"There are two types of leaders. Those who want to lead and those who the people want to lead them. I have been on a political journey not just for positions but for what I believe we can achieve as a city

"Switching to senator did not change my dreams for this city or my vision for a working capital that is global hub. I still have those dreams," he said.

On January 29, Wanjiru also noted that nothing would stop her from bidding for governor and dared Sakaja to face her during the primaries.

“I know there are people who joined our house recently but we are telling them to be ready for a fierce contest. We are ready for the primaries any time, any moment,” she said.
