Atwoli admitted that his era at the union is nearing its end hence the need to plan for his exit.

Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli has said his retirement plan is in the works.

The Cotu boss says after the August 9 elections he will be playing a behind the scenes role of mentoring young leaders who will succeed him at the labour union.

He says he will tone down on his advocacy works and focus on his exit.

"After this election, you will never hear about me. I am preparing my legacy, my exit just everything. Because you accept that there are limits for everything and there are people who are coming," he said.

He added: "We must position them. We can remain quietly behind them to advise them if they so wish. At my age, those who prepared me I don't see them, why should continue calling myself a champion".

Atwoli has led the labour union for years even as he faces criticism for doing nothing to help workers who are in dire need of their services.

Among the leaders who recently attacked Atwoli is ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi who termed the leadership of the union as "Clownish".

This came after Atwoli led Luhya elders in crowning Oparanya as the new Western Kingpin, dethroning Musalia who was crowned in 2016.
