The family of Nominated Senator Beth Mugo has been thrown into mourning following the death of her husband, former ambassador Nicholas Muratha Mugo. 

According to reports, the 86-year-old took his final bow at the Nairobi Hospital where he was receiving treatment after a long illness. 

According to the family, Amb Mugo will be cremated on Friday, February 4 followed by a memorial service at a later date. 

As an ambassador, he served in various countries including France, Ethiopia, the Vatican and Yugoslavia. 

In September 2019, Mugo and his wife Beth were joined by President Uhuru Kenyatta among other guests to celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary.

The couple also used the opportunity to celebrate the senator's 80th birthday party which had been pushed forward from July 2019.  

"Sometimes, I know I have behaved stupidly, let me acknowledge, you have forgiven me happily. On such occasions, I have more understood that together, we are meant to overcome our stupidity 

"For indeed, you are the bone of my bone," a poem printed on the programme booklet read. 

The event was held at their family home in Kitisuru, Nairobi.
