Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has accused ODM Leader Raila Odinga of confusing the government using the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional Amendment push.

Speaking on Friday, Senator Murkomen urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to “return the river to its course” arguing that Kenyans are facing a lot of challenges while the government is focused on the BBI referendum push.

Taking a swipe at Odinga, Murkomen claimed that the former Prime Minister has confused the government yet he is not even a sub-chief.

“I want to ask with utmost respect His Excellency the President Kenyatta return the river to its course, let Kenya come back to its senses, let us reason with one another…I am saying this to President Uhuru Kenyatta because Raila Odinga ni mtu ako streets sio ata sub-chief, lakini amechanganyisha serikali, so I cannot address mwenye sio ata sub-chief, I have to go to my boss,” he said in part.

Murkomen further noted that the government should re-examine its priorities arguing that rather than spending billions in BBI referendum, the same should be used to facilitate treatment of Covid-19 patients.

Collection of BBI Signatures to Commence Next Week - Raila

Meanwhile, Odinga on Friday announced that collection of one million BBI referendum signatures will kick off next week.

“We will be doing the launch of the signature collection sometimes next week. We want that exercise to be done as soon as possible so that the matter can be handed over to the electoral commission, and then we can move towards the next phase of a referendum.

“This matter, as already mentioned before, should be concluded by latest April next year. That is where we are as far as BBI is concerned,” he said.
