DRC Congo Head of Missions Madam Malenga Omoy Charlotte assured that the bilateral relations between the two countries remain intact and that the existing formal diplomatic channels of communication take precedence.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has moved to dispel any misunderstanding between Kenya and DRC Congo following Deputy President William Ruto's remarks that the Central African nation country has no cows.

The DP's remarks attracted criticism from a section of leaders from DRC Congo and in the country, with the likes of ODM leader Raila Odinga regretting Ruto's remarks.

On Thursday, February 17, 2022, Ruto's campaign secretariat Head of Communications Hussein Mohamed and Head of International Relations Ababu Namwamba held a meeting with DRC Head of Missions Madam Malenga Omoy Charlotte to iron out the matter.

Madam Malenga assured that the bilateral relations between the two countries remain intact and that the existing formal diplomatic channels of communication take precedence.

"We both agree that cordial sister countries always leave room for engagement through formal diplomatic channels in the face of any issues," Mohamed stated.

Ruto's remarks are said to have caused tension among the business community in DRC at a time it enjoys a good relationship with Kenya.

In a statement on Wednesday, February 16, Kenyan ambassador to Congo George Masafu assured the Congolese nation of a respectful relationship in the wake of the angry reactions the DP's remarks caused.

"The Kenya Embassy wishes to reiterate that the people of Kenya share a deep and respectful historical relationship with the government and people of DRC," ambassador Masafu said.

"Kenya is confident that these relations will be entrenched through government to government frameworks and people to people partnerships that have built in the past."
