Kenyans took to social media to highlight the high cost of living ranging from basic commodities like cooking oil and tomatoes.

A section of Kenyans demanded the leaders in Kenya led by President Uhuru Kenyatta should address the matter with urgency.

Some Kenyans pointed out that they were tired and life was taking a toll on them since they could no longer afford even some of the basic commodities.

Amidst the conversation, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko weighed in on the debate seemingly giving a different opinion.

Sonko noted that it was hard to reduce the price of basic commodities until the price of farm products like fertilizers was reduced.

The former Governor mentioned that Kenyans ought to start the conversation from the production costs of farming.

"I don't think prices of Food can be lowered down as you are protesting via #lowerfoodprices until prices of farm products are lowered....i.e fertilizers, chemicals to spray, and animal Feeds.... Hapo Ndio hii language should start When production cost is high expect prices to be higher.

"Sikuizi ata nikipea mtu Thao najua tu labda atabuy 2kg of Sugar & 2Kg of cooking oil kenye atakula nacho hio pressure ingine kando. Anyway let's embrace farming hata kama ni kitchen garden unaweza save your coins bila kujua," Sonko said.

Here are some of the opinions by Kenyans;
