The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned businessman and presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi over alleged illegal possession of weapons.

According to Kuria Obadiah, a Superintendent of Police attached to the DCI’s serious Crime Unit, the billionaire businessman is in possession of 10 illegal firearms and 485 rounds of ammunition.

"This criminal investigation has established that you hold 10 (10) Firearms of different makes and description as described below and which act of possession is in contravention of the Law as on 5th December 2018 the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr Fred Matiang’i," Kuria noted.

Wanjigi is expected to present himself to the DCI in 72 hours or he will be arrested.

This comes a month after Wanjigi was arrested over an alleged conspiracy to commit a felony and forgery of a title deed.

According to court documents, the presidential candidate alongside nine others committed the aforementioned offences on diverse dates between April 2010 and June 2018.

However, speaking from Kamukunji Police Station where he was taken after being arrested in Westlands, Wanjigi dismissed the allegations.

"There is a bigger picture here and it has to do with elections after all why is it that every election it is Jimi that is sought. In 2017, I was looked for and now again in 2022

"It is about the elections. I am making the elections very uncomfortable so let us see what is going to happen," he stated.

He was later freed on grounds of conservatory orders issued on Tuesday restraining the Inspector General (IG) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from arresting Wanjigi.
