Kabando said the DP enjoys about 70 to 75 per cent support of the Mt Kenya region.

Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando Wa Kabando now says deputy president William Ruto enjoys a commanding lead in the Mt Kenya region.

In an interview with NTV on Monday evening, Kabando said the DP enjoys about 70 to 75 percent support of the Mt Kenya region.

According to him, even the intelligence service is cognizant of that fact.

"If you do an analysis of a random survey, out of 100 people in Mt Kenya region, 70 percent of them or about 75 in Nyeri and areas surrounding Nyeri support Deputy President William Ruto," Kabando said.

Kabando who has declared interest in the Nyeri county senate seat did not, however, make it clear whether he is now in the Azimio La Umoja camp or Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Azimio is led by the ODM leader Raila Odinga while Kenya Kwanza is led by Ruto.

This comes two months after he shared a post with writings that signified that he was in support of the ODM leader.

"I'm safer with Baba," the post read.

But of late, the MP has appeared cagey in his support of Raila signaling a possibility of him rethinking his political future.

Whether he is bound to join Ruto's camp or not is a matter of time.

Allies of the DP led by Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata and his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen have recently and openly urged Kabando to join their camp.

In social media comments, the leaders have tried to convince the Nyeri senate seat aspirant to join UDA saying he will be a good fit for the party.

Kabando has responded with appreciation to the comments but he is yet to announce whether he will join the UDA party led by Ruto.

He is the founder member of the Safina party, an outfit that first took him to parliament.
