Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has claimed that ODM leader Raila Odinga enjoys the support of 30 to 35 per cent of people from the Mount Kenya Region.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV's Francis Gachuri at the Sagana State Lodge on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, Kega affirmed that the mountain if warming up to the former Prime Minister.
"Right now, what we know and are aware of is that 30 to 35 per cent of Mount Kenya is firmly behind Raila Odinga and we are working to ensure the number grows," the MP said.
Kega, a staunch supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta, stated that they are looking to grow Odinga's support in Central Kenya to 50 per cent after which they are confident he will clinch the presidency.

"I came from the Coast yesterday and the people there are firmly behind Raila Odinga. We went to Western Kenya, they are firmly behind Raila Odinga. With our support, he will become the fifth president of Kenya," he said.
The Kieni legislator noted that it is only during the reign of late President Daniel Arap Moi that the region was out of government, other than that, they have been in all governments and are looking to do so in the coming elections.
Kega noted that since Mount Kenya does not have a popular Presidential candidate, they will look to support a person who will cater for the interests of the region.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta has worked with all the presidential candidates, and it is he that knows them. He will come here, he will tell us who to support. And that person is none other than Raila Amollo Odinga," the lawmaker stated.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to address leaders and members of the public from Mount Kenya at the Sagana State Lodge today.
The Head of State is expected to give direction to the mountain ahead of the August 9 general elections.
Leaders allied to the president and political analysts have speculated that Uhuru will endorse the candidature of Odinga at the meeting.
