President Kenyatta is expected to issue direction to the mountain ahead of the August 9 general elections.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri ahead of a meeting with leaders and members of the public from the Mount Kenya region.

The meeting has been attended by leaders from the Jubilee Party, current and former Cabinet Secretaries, governors, senators, members of parliament and the county assemblies, as well as grassroots leaders from Central Kenya.

President Kenyatta is expected to issue direction to the mountain ahead of the August 9 general elections.

The Head of State is expected to endorse ODM leader Raila Odinga as his preferred successor.

Members of the public began to arrive at the Sagana State Lodge as early as 5 am in the morning as they await President Kenyatta's declaration.

Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has claimed that ODM leader Raila Odinga enjoys the support of 30 to 35 per cent of people from the Mount Kenya Region.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV's Francis Gachuri at the Sagana State Lodge on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, Kega affirmed that the mountain if warming up to the former Prime Minister.

"Right now, what we know and are aware of is that 30 to 35 percent of Mount Kenya is firmly behind Raila Odinga and we are working to ensure the number grows," the MP said.

Kega noted that since Mount Kenya does not have a popular Presidential candidate, they will look to support a person who will cater for the interests of the region.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta has worked with all the presidential candidates, and it is he that knows them. He will come here, he will tell us who to support. And that person is none other than Raila Amollo Odinga," the lawmaker stated.
