Irungu Kang'ata argued that churches have been in existence for over 2000 years and it has shaped morality for years.

Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has answered President Uhuru Kenyatta following his remarks on church leaders.

Speaking at the Sagana State Lodge on Wednesday, February 23, the Head of State noted that church leaders have the tendency of lying to their congregants after receiving money from politicians.

"Church leaders should stop lying to our people. Don't lie to our people because you've been given stolen money from the public coffers. Such preachers will go to hell," Uhuru stated.

Kang'ata has since dismissed remarks by the Head of State arguing that churches have been in existence for over 2000 years and it has shaped morality for years.

"I refuse to believe church in Kenya is corrupt. It is an institution that has been in this world for more than 2000 years. It has shaped our morality over centuries," the Senator said.

Speaking during the same meeting, Uhuru also urged Kenyans to support ODM leader Raila Odinga's presidency bid.

"I appeal you to support Raila. Help him to the top. Even my friend Ruto, he can become president someday akishika line. Tushikilie huyo Mzee (Raila) mara hii, huyo kijana (Ruto) tutafikiria baadaye

"Let's hold the old man's hand and if the other young man also reforms, I have not stopped anyone from supporting him," Uhuru said.
