In an update by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, March 1, the government negotiated for unrestricted entry of Kenyans into the neighboring EU states due to the situation in Ukraine. 

The request was honored by Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania that Kenyans cross their borders via simplified procedure.

"74 Kenyan students are in Poland in different cities of Warsaw, Krakovets and Katowice, 2 in Romania, 2 in Hungary, one is back to Kenya and 4 have shown no interest of leaving Ukraine citing personal reasons," the statement read in part.

On 24 February 2022, Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine, one of its neighbours to the southwest.

It marked a major escalation between the countries, which had been in a state of conflict since 2014.

Russia unleashed a wave of attacks on Ukraine, targeting fuel facilities and airfields in what appears to be the next phase of an invasion that has been slowed by fierce resistance.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of war crimes for bombing the city of Kharkiv.
