More than 400 boda boda riders in Nairobi are set to lose jobs by end of the month.

This comes amid a downsizing exercise announced by Motor-bike hailing app SafeBoda.

According to a notice issued on Monday, November 16 2020, SafeBoda said it will suspend the ride and send services from November 27.

“While Nairobi is seeing some economic recovery from Covid-19, Boda transportation has been hit hard," the statement read in part.

"This has meant our business cannot sustainably operate in this environment and unfortunately, the timeline for a full recovery is not certain,” it continued.

Safeboda users in March 2020, were facing difficulty travelling in Nairobi following a 'blackout, by the app’s riders.

The riders had been cancelling requests in the past two months to protest the low pricing of the rides which they feel is eating into most of their profits.

“With prices slashed by over 40 percent you can now get around Nairobi with SafeBoda for as little as 60 bob!!” read a post on the firm’s app.
