Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has received a blow after the Deputy National Organizing Secretary Dr. Wanjala Iyaya officially joined the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

In a statement on the DAP-K official Twitter account, the DAP-K confirmed that Dr. Iyaya had joined the party affirming the support for Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja.

“UDA party Deputy National Organizing secretary Dr. Wanjala Iyaya who is also an aspirant for Webuye East constituency seat has officially joined DAP-K. Iyaya was accompanied by the TACUSO elders who affirmed the support for Azimio La Umoja,” DAP-K tweeted.

DAP-K is gaining momentum as the August 9 General Election inches closer after it was newly launched at the Bomas of Kenya last December.

Parties forming the Kenya Kwanza alliance have had their members decamp to DAP-K. Former ANC deputy party leader Ayub Savula is among the politicians who have joined the party.

Last month, Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula blasted the party maintaining that it is an extension of the Raila Odinga-led Azimio.

The Bungoma senator urged his locals to reject the party which he termed as ‘ODM B’.

"When you see them here with that party just know they are ODM B and reject them," Wetangula stated in Bungoma.
