State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena has said the high cost of living being witnessed in Kenya is a global phenomenon due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking during an interview on Inooro FM, Kanze stated that the economic slowdown was brought about by lockdown among other factors during the pandemic.

Kenyans recently took to social media to complain about the high cost of living demanding the Government address the matter with urgency and reduce the prices of basic commodities.

Under the hashtag, Lower Food Prices, the netizens decried the increase in prices of basic food commodities such as sifted maize flour, bread, vegetables, and fruits.

Food inflation rose 8.89 percent in January 2022 despite the decline in the overall rate of inflation, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) monthly Consumer Price Index.
