The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader revealed that he had received several appeals from constituents urging him to contest the senate seat in a bid to unseat Wetangula.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has been handed a boost after Kanduyi Member of Parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi shelved his senatorial ambitions.

The lawmaker explained that he had decided to withdraw his bid after wide consultation with members of the public, especially elders from his constituency.

Wamunyinyi, however, resolved to defend his Kanduyi parliamentary seat.

"I still feel there is much I can do as I serve Kanduyi residents in the same capacity," he said.

"Kanduyi Constituency belongs to Kanduyi people and they are the ones who understand me better. They have agreed that I continue serving them in the same capacity," he added.

The DAP-K leader stated that the party will settle on the best candidate to challenge Wetangula for the senate seat.

Addressing members of the public at Bungoma's Posta grounds last month, Wamunyinyi revealed that there were talks within DAP-K to field a strong candidate who will unseat Wetangula.

Wamunyinyi fell out with Wetangula after he led a coup within FORD-Kenya. Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu, and Wamunyinyi attempted to overthrow Wetangula during their time in FORD-Kenya.

They accused the Senator of running the party like his personal kiosk. The three leaders have since decamped to DAP-K.
