DCI said Oscar was charging different amounts for sciences and humanities subjects.

Detectives from the directorate of criminal investigations have arrested a third-year economics student of Zetech University for selling fake KCSE and KCPE examination papers.

The suspect identified by name as Oscar Brighton was arrested on Thursday by undercover agents attached to the Kenya National Examination Council, monitoring and surveillance unit.

DCI said Oscar was charging different amounts for sciences and humanities subjects.

The fake papers were kept in his phone.

"The suspect was in possession of fake examination papers, while others were stored in his mobile phone. He had created several WhatsApp groups where candidates were asked to deposit between Sh1,600 for Humanities to Sh2,600 for Sciences," DCI said.

The DCI says Oscar had two groups that he used to con unsuspecting candidates.

A total of 72 participants who had been sold the papers were part of the group. Oscar was the admin and the one who coordinated all activities.

"The suspect who is a serial offender is currently in custody, to be charged with contravening section 28 of National Examination malpractices Act 29, 2012," DCI said.

The KCPE exams ended on Wednesday and education CS George Magoha assured Kenyans that no exam was leaked.

He said any paper alleged to be an original was fake. He warned that those who were arrested for trying to take pictures of the exam papers will be dealt with according to the law.

KCSE exams are scheduled to start on Monday, March 14.
