Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday told boda boda operators to go and collect impounded motorcycles from police stations.

Addressing a rally in Ngara, DP Ruto stated that individuals who assaulted the lady along Wangari Maathai road should be arrested and charged in a court of law.

The DP said that the incident should not be used to harass boda boda operators in the country.

"All boda-boda operators whose motorcycles were impounded and charged unlawful fines should go and collect them from police stations," DP Ruto told the gathering.

DP Ruto's sentiments come days after the Government suspended the boda boda crackdown across the country.

Police said the move was to allow the government reorganise the sector and come up with new regulations.

"Enforcement of compliance of traffic law by public transport motorcycles aka Boda boda crackdown has been stopped.

"This is to give room to the government to reorganize the sector through a multi-sectoral committee working on a framework of implementation."," National Police Service (NPS) said.

The main suspect behind the sexual assault on a woman motorist on Prof Wangari Maathai Road in Nairobi, Zachariah Nyaora Obadia, was also arrested at the Kenya-Tanzania border.
