National IDs will cease operating from December 12 2021, this is according to ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru.

This emerged after the CS who was speaking in Machakos County, rolled out Huduma Namba Card distribution.

CS Mucheru said Huduma Namba cards will be issued starting December 1, 2020.

On Mashujaa Day President Uhuru Kenyatta received his card alongside First Lady Margaret and 10 others.

Uhuru said the new number is crucial because it captures individuals’ data on one card.

Huduma card will be rolled out under the National Integrated Information Management System (NIIMS) that is domiciled at the Interior Ministry.

The Huduma Card will see all government payment services done through a digital platform.

Kenyans using the card will automatically be enrolled in key government services such as the National Social Security Fund, National Hospital Insurance Fund. This will ensure universal coverage of all Kenyans especially those in marginalised areas.

The card will also be integrated with the Kenya Revenue Authority to enable easy issuance of PIN numbers and seamless tax payment.

Huduma Card complement's government's Huduma Centres, which were launched with the aim of cutting red tape experienced by citizens while accessing government services.
