A university student who was arrested for selling fake KCPE and KCSE papers has been released on a Sh1 million bond or Sh 500,000 cash bail.

Oscar Brighton was presented before the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on Monday, where he denied all the charges against him.

The Zetech University student was arrested by detectives from the Kenya National Examination Council's (KNEC) monitoring and surveillance unit early in the month.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Brighton was caught red handed in possession of the fake papers with soft copies saved on his cell phone.

The court charged him on a second account with revealing the contents of the papers to another party through his mobile phone.

The release of Brighton comes less than a day after Education CS Prof. George Magoha announced strict measures to curb examination cheating.

In a press statement, Magoha noted banning of mobile phones from examination centres as one of the measures to curb exam irregularities.

“Mobile phones must not be allowed at the examination centre except one for the centre manager, and one for the security officer, both of which should be kept at the centre manager's office in case of any emergency,” read part of the statement.
