Samuel Maina has been named the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation's (KBC) acting Managing Director.

In a memo on Friday by the corporation’s Board of Directors chairman Eng. Benjamin Maingi, Mr. Maina will hold the position until it is substantively filled.

“To ensure continuity and smooth running of the Corporation, the Board of Directors held a Special Board meeting today 25TH March 2022 and appointed Mr. Samuel Maina to the position of Ag. Managing Director with immediate effect,” read the memo signed by Eng. Maingi.

Eng. Maingi congratulated Mr. Maina on his new role as he urged KBC’s staff to accord the new acting MD maximum cooperation in his duties.

“On behalf of the board, join me in congratulating the Ag. Managing Director, Mr. Samuel Maina for the appointment as we wish him the very best in the new role,” Eng. Maina stated.

Before the appointment of Mr. Maina as the new acting MD, he was serving as KBC’s Editor in Chief.

Mr Maina takes over from Dr. Naim Bilal whose contract with KBC ended on March 19 after serving in the position for three years.

Dr. Bilal, a veteran journalist, was confirmed as KBC’s MD through an official Gazette notice on March 19, 2019 by Communication and Technology Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru.
