The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has postponed nominations in two counties, Kilifi and Mombasa. 

ODM made the announcement on Saturday, April 1, stating that the postponement was due to ongoing consultations and consensus-building. 

The nominations in the two counties were set for Tuesday, 5th April 2022 and Wednesday, 6th April 2022 before the postponement. 

"The Party Primaries for Kilifi County and Mombasa County scheduled for Tuesday, 5th April 2022 and Wednesday, 6th April 2022, respectively are hereby postponed to enable the conclusion of the ongoing consultations and consensus-building.

"The National Elections Board will communicate the outcome of the consultations and consensus-building and advice on the next steps. We urge our members to exercise patience in the meantime," read the statement.

In Mombasa County, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir and businessman Suleiman Shahbal are battling it out for the ODM ticket. 

According to a recent poll by Infortrak Research and Consulting Mvita MP Abdulswamad is the most preferred candidate for the Mombasa governor seat. 

The poll conducted between March 19-22, puts Abdulswamad ahead of the rest with a 48 percent approval rating.

His fierce rival Shahbal scored 18 percent followed by former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar (5 percent) and former Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo (4 percent).
