The Communication Authority of Kenya had set Friday, April 15 as the deadline for the process.

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday weighed into the ongoing SIM card registration that was directed by the Communications Authority of Kenya.

Speaking at the Ngong Racecourse, the DP said that the registration process can wait up to December after the Communications Authority set Friday, April 15 as the deadline.

The second in command wondered what the magic was about the deadline on Friday. He said there was enough time for the process.

“The long queues even on a simple matter of SIM cards. We want to ask our people at the CA that please we have enough time. What is this magic about Friday?” the DP posed.

“The SIM card registrations can wait. Up to December maybe. And if the CA is the agent of dark forces, we want to them that they will fail and they will fail miserably,” the DP added.

Communications Authority CEO Ezra Chiloba had warned earlier that the service providers will switch off users who do not present the registration details by the deadline on Friday.

"If you don't do that (register) the telcos are going to switch you off. Looking at the situation across the country, the compliance rate is not good at all which means the risks are even much higher," he said.
