Linturi became the first gubernatorial aspirant in Meru to name a female candidate as his running mate.

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has picked the former acting Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Linda Gakii Kiome as his running mate.

Linturi, who is running for Meru County governorship under Deputy President William Ruto's UDA ticket, became the first gubernatorial aspirant in Meru to name a female candidate as his running mate.

He will be facing off with Azimio la Umoja allied Governor Kiraitu Murungi of the Devolution Empowerment Party formally known as the Mbus Party.

While accepting her appointment, Kiome thanked Linturi saying their task is to recruit and unite all Meru county residents so as to strategically position themselves at the core of every decision-making arena in the region.

"All grace and honor go to the almighty God who holds our today, tomorrow and our future. Thank you Hon Mithika Linturi for accepting my appointment as the Meru county deputy Governor. Thank you to all leaders and Meru county people who have stood strong to protect our people's interests. Linturi's deputy is an experienced counsel who has served in the capacity of acting Law Society of Kenya(LSK) President.

According to Linturi, her vast experience in law and social issues makes her the ideal deputy governor for the transformation of Meru County.

She has served in different boards of institutions in Meru county, including Kaaga girls, Meru Polytechnic, Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital among others.

Linda Kiome is the current LSK chair Mt Kenya Branch and she is from North Imenti whereas Linturi comes from South Igembe


The duo will be banking on the support of their party boss William Ruto, who has already vowed to ensure UDA carries the day in the Mt Kenya East region.
