Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has sent social media into a frenzy following his reaction after President Uhuru Kenyatta avoided a handshake with his deputy William Ruto on Monday.

The DP was receiving the President at Parliament buildings where President Kenyatta was to lead the nation in viewing the body of late former President Mwai Kibaki.

Kuria took to Facebook to post the photo of President Kenyatta and Ruto with the caption: “Geithagia andu” which is a famous Kikuyu song. The words loosely translate to “greet people.”

The MP reaction ignited a heated reaction by netizens who shared their mixed reactions regarding the gesture by Kuria.

President Kenyatta opted not to shake hands with Ruto and leaders lined to greet him on Monday but instead gave them a greeting sign to acknowledge them.

However, the president was captured in photos shared by State House Kenya shaking hands with the family of the late Kibaki and also religious leaders present at parliament buildings.

The move raised concerns, with a section of Kenyans claiming that he did not want to shake his deputy's hands.
