Deputy President William Ruto has broken his silence on the revisiting of the 2007/08 post-election violence terming it an ‘evil attempt to resuscitate tribe project.
In a tweet, the DP condemned the move by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to revisit the case, stating that it could lead to ‘ethnic hate and division.
"The provocative incitement to ethnic hate/division intended by the resurrection of PEV is an evil attempt to resuscitate the tribe project destroyed by the hustler movements' realisation that poverty and unemployment deliberately bred by poor leadership is our problem not our tribes,” he tweeted.
On Monday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti announced that the agency had revived cases against the perpetrators of the 2007/8 post-election violence.

Addressing the press, Kinoti said they had registered 72 cases adding that victims had received new threats.
"We have heard the victims' cries and complaints of emerging threats, and are promising them that they shall not even be scratched on the same account again.
"We have registered around 72 cases from those whose wives/husbands/children were killed. We have recorded cases of some who were driven out of their homes. We have 118 cases in total registered today with complainants and witnesses,'' Kinoti said.
The DCI boss assured the victims that the State would protect them and ensure they don't experience threats or violence.
The DCI’s statement did not augur well with DP Ruto’s allies who claimed revisiting of the post-election violence cases was meant to frustrate the latter’s 2020 presidential bid.
However, the DCI on Tuesday clarified that it is no re-opening post-election violence cases but looking into recent complains from the public who raised concerns about their safety.
