A former Member of Parliament has died after suffering an asthma attack.

Mustafa Iddi; the immediate former Member of Parliament for Kilifi South died on Wednesday morning while receiving treatment at the Premier Hospital in Mombasa .

Prior to his death, Iddi, 50, served as the chairman, Coast Water Works Development Agency.

According to his family, the deceased had a serious asthma attack on Tuesday night and unfortunately succumbed in the wee hours of Wednesday.


“Mustafa is asthmatic and this time he got a serious attack and was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately he died around 3 am,” his son cousin Omar Kuta told The Star.

The deceased is set to be buried on Wednesday afternoon at his Bomani home.

Iddi had been in politics for over 10 years before his unfortunate death. In 2007, he vied for a parliamentary seat but lost.

In 2013, he contested the Kilifi South Parliamentary seat and won on an ODM party ticket. He, however decamped t Jubilee in 2017 and unsuccessfully defended his seat.

His place in Parliament was taken by Ken Chonga.

Prior to joining politics, Iddi served as a radio broadcaster at KBC and later moved to NTV where he was a sports newscaster.
