NIA said it had been monitoring the red-carded politicians and had failed integrity tests.

Deputy President William Ruto's running mate Rigathi Gachagua and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino are among the over twenty politicians whose names have been proposed to be blocked from contesting in the August 9, general polls.

Releasing the names on Sunday, May 22, National Integrity Alliance (NIA) announced that the seven have been earmarked by the alliance and their names forwarded to the IEBC for action.

NIA is an anti-corruption body made up of Transparency International Kenya (TI-Kenya), Inuka Kenya Ni Sisi!, Mzalendo Trust, The Institute for Social Accountability (TISA), and The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and strives to bar individuals with questionable integrity from being elected into public office in the General Election.

Other key politicians whose characters have been found questionable by the alliance include former Nairobi Governors Mike Sonko, Evans Kidero, Kiringaga Governor Ann Waiguru, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and others.

The alliance revealed that it has been closely monitoring the seven and together with others and that they are obliged to enforce Chapter 6 of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.

"Already different political factions have nominated candidates to compete in various political seats in the August general elections. However, it is unfortunate that some of these aspirants have questionable characters and tainted integrity," said NIA.

In particular, the alliance said Ruto's man Gachagua should not be cleared by the IEBC to contest alongside Ruto since he has been implicated in graft cases. NIA said Rigathi's accounts have also been frozen over huge sums of unexplained money summing up to Ksh. 200 million
