  • MCAs have begun another process to impeach governor Mike Sonko
  • This is after the county boss refused to assent to the bill on the Sh37.5 billion 2020-21 budget.
  • This is the MCAs second attempt to impeach Governor Sonko who has been butting heads with the NMS

Nairobi MCA Michael Ogada has moved a motion to impeach Governor Mike Sonko.

Reports indicated that 86 ward representatives in Nairobi appended signatures in support of the motion.

MCAs said the new plot to impeach Governor Sonko is over his refusal to sign the county government budget.

Sonko has been at loggerheads with may representatives after refusing to append his signature on the county’s Sh37.5 billion annual budget that allocated Sh27.1 billion to Nairobi Metropolitan Services, leaving City Hall with Sh8.4 billion.

On Wednesday MCAs allied to Governor Sonko claimed another plot had been hatched to impeach the county boss.

They alleged that impeachment was the top agenda of two meetings held on Monday and Tuesday at Capital Hill.

But Minority leader Michael Ogada said their meeting was about harmonising the assembly and BBI signatures collection.

In February 2020, a court saved Sonko from impeachment after he was accused of a litany of misdeeds, including abuse of office and financial mismanagement.
