Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has finally been cleared to vie.

The Senator was cleared to vie for the county top seat together with his running mate Winnie Mwangim on Tuesday.

The clearance came a day after they were denied clearance over allegations that his running mate failed to resign with the legal set timelines by the Kenyan constitution.

Earlier reports indicated that Mwangi did not resign by February 9.

In that context, she had violated the Elections Act, which requires public officers seeking elective seats to resign six months before an election.

She was a lecturer at the University of Nairobi for more than 25 years before being chosen as Kang'ata's running mate.

Kang'ata attributed the mishap to malice, claiming his opponents joined hands to bring him down.

Kang'ata exuded confidence that his running mate left office within the constitutional timelines, something he managed to prove hence the clearance.
