Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed Nur exited the meeting after a person from the Somali region of Somalia was invited to the briefing.

The Kenyan Government has apologised to Somalia after its official walked out of a briefing of the Diplomatic corps by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday.

Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed Nur exited the meeting after a person from the Somali region of Somalia was invited to the briefing and given equal privileges as that of the sovereign state of Somalia.

The protest was made by Nur who opposed the presence of the official from the Somaliland of Somalia.

"The Somali demands a full explanation of the violations of our sovereignty from the Republic of Kenya," Somali demanded in a letter.

Following the demand issued by Somalia, Kenya has apologised and expressed commitment to respecting Somalia and its federal states.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets the inadvertent and inappropriate presence of the flag of Somaliland at the Annual Diplomatic Function. The Ministry further wishes to reaffirm its recognition of the sovereignty of one Somali federal government and the integrity of the  Federal Somali Land," Kenya said in a statement.

"Any inconvenience or embarrassment caused is deeply regretted."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya expressed commitment to renewing the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Nairobi.
