Ezekiel Mutua said the campaign season should be a high season for musicians.

Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has put on notice politicians playing music in their campaigns without a license.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, June 16, the MCSK boss said that this campaign season should be a high season for musicians because their music is being used.

Mutua said that the politicians had already been issued with invoices and whoever would not have paid for the music in the given time will be prosecuted.

“Wakati huu wa campaigns inatakikana kuwa wakati mzuri sana kwa wanamuziki kwa sababu nyimbo zao zinatumika. Hizo nyimbo zinazotumiwa zinatakiwa kuwa zimelipiwa license,”

“Wanasiasa wengi wamekuwa hawalipi. Tumewapatia invoice kwa maana tumepata hii utaratibu. Tutaenda kwao na yule hatakuwa amelipa kwa wakati ule umepeanwa sasa tutaanza kuwashika,” Mutua stated.

He further said that even the international music used by the politicians should be paid for as the copyright society has bilateral agreements with the international artists.

Mutua said that the society has been keeping an eye on the politicians playing music adding that if they did not have a license, they shall be prosecuted in court.

The MCSK boss also called for the intervention of the Independent and Electoral BoUndaries Commission (IEBC) claiming that it was an integrity issue.
