  • Speaker arrested over graft
  • His deputy and other staff also nabbed as EACC sleuths probe the corruption case

Detectives From the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested Migori speaker Boaz Okoth.

During the raid on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, the sleuths also arrested his deputy Mathews Chacha and eight other county assembly officials in a graft probe.

In September 2020, Mr. Okoth claimed his life is in danger after unknown people attacked him in his Kisumu house yesterday for allegedly hosting MCAs for a meeting.

Reports indicated that unknown people stormed a house the speaker was residing in but were repelled by his security as he escaped using a different gate.

Mr. Okoth's arrest comes in the backdrop of apprehensions by EACC sleuths in the county where embattled Governor Okoth Obado, who is facing a murder charge in the killing of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno, was arrested after presenting himself to the detectives in August 2020.

Obado presented himself alongside his children with whom he is accused of fleecing Migori County Government of Sh73.4 million.
