The Senate has released the proposed names of members that will sit in a committee that will decide on the impeachment of Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.

Sonko will face an 11-member committee that will decide his fate concerning the charges brought against him by Members of the County Assembly.

The proposed senators include; Samson Cherargei (Nandi), Charles Kibiru (Kirinyaga), Hargura Godana (Marsabit), Abdullahi Ali (Wajir), Alice Milgo (nominated), Christine Zawadi (nominated), Okongo Omogeni (Nyamira), Mohammed Faki (Mombasa), Judith Pareno (nominated), Petronilla Were (nominated) and Fred Outa (Kisumu).

The members will have ten days within which to hear and determine the Sonko case and file its findings and recommendations for a vote.

Nairobi MCAs accused Sonko of gross violation of the Constitution or any other law (the County Governments Act, 2012, the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, 2015 and the Public Finance Management Act, 2012), abuse of office, and crimes under the national law.

The Ward Reps also faulted the governor for failing to approve the Sh37.4 billion budget to facilitate operations undertaken by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).
