The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has resolved not to field candidates in two upcoming  by-elections for seats previously held by the Jubilee Party.

In a statement, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna noted that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had agreed not to field candidates in Lake View ward by-election and Kahawa Wendani.

"ODM has today through its party's NEC resolved that it will not be fielding candidates in Lake View Ward in Nakuru County and Kahawa Wendani Ward in Kiambu County both of which were held by Jubilee," Sifuna said.

The announcement is seen as pay back for Jubilee which opted out of Msambweni by-election in favour of Jubilee.

Jubilee Pulls out of Msambweni

Early this week, Jubilee party through its Secretary General Raphael Tuju announced that the ruling outfit won’t contest in the Msambweni mini-poll.

In the statement, Tuju noted that the decision by the party not participate in the by-election was informed by the recent advisory by Chief Justice David Maraga to dissolve Parliament.

"... the decision not to engage in the contest is informed by the facts prevailing at the moment when we face challenges like the recent advisory by the Chief Justice that parliament should be dissolved," the statement read in part.

According to the statement by Mr Tuju, the decision not to field a candidate was also influenced by the ODM-Jubilee cooperation in Parliament and in the national government.
