Ex-Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has announced that he is considering vying for the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat in 2022.

In an interview with a local daily, Kidero noted that he is currently working with his team to deliberate on the issue as the incumbent is set to vacate office in 2022.

According to Kidero, he gained interest in the seat after he was approached by locals to contest in 2022.

“It is something I am considering very seriously,” Kidero said.

The race to succeed Governor Cyprian Awiti has been heating up with reports indicating that Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga and ODM Chairman John Mbadi are keen to join the race.

Homa Bay is an ODM stronghold and as such, anyone who bags the party’s nomination is considered to have an almost sure guarantee of winning the seat during the election.

Kidero served as Nairobi Governor for the period of 2013-2017. He sought re-election in 2017, but also to former Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

Most people were expecting Kidero to make another run at the Nairobi Governorship but he appears to have shifted his allegiance to his home county.
