  • The officers are set to offer security countrywide amid the festive season.
  • The recalled officers are set to focus mainly focus on the transport sector.

Inspector of Police Hillary Mutyambai has recalled officers from leave.

The officers are expected to beef up security as the festive season kicks off across the country.

Through a Twitter post, Mutyambai said police have enhanced patrols across the country, and there was a need to increase the number.

"The police will have enhanced patrols. All officers on leave have since been recalled to give sufficient backup. Also, because of the uniqueness of the season, a multiagency team is put in place to enhance security," Mutyambai said.

The majority of Kenyans are expected to travel upcountry to join their family members during the festive season.

Mutyambai urged Kenyans to ensure they adhere to the Covid-19 protocols even as they travel.

"...police officers will take action against anyone contravening Covid-19 protocols," he said.

His announcement comes in the backdrop of Covid-19 protocol violations, especially in the public transport sector.

Currently, there is pressure on public transport as Kenyans head upcountry for the festivities.

Notably, most operators are violating the rules on carrying full capacity against Ministry of Health guidelines.

The number of accidents has risen since January; most of them involving boda boda riders, their passengers, and pedestrians.

Several vehicles and motorcycles have so far been impounded, and motorists charged for various violations.
