A Machakos court freed Julius Wambua, the man accused of raping his daughter, on Ksh30,000 cash bail.

On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, the court also overturned his life sentence after his daughter recanted rape allegations against him.

“The case should begin afresh and all sentences by the Kithimani Court and High Court be quashed,” Justice George Odunga ruled.

Justice Odunga further noted that Wambua is deemed an innocent person and there are no compelling reasons to deny him bond.

Wambua had been serving a life sentence after he was found guilty of defiling his daughter in 2011.

His story was brought to light after Citizen TV aired the Prison Diaries segment in March 2019.

His daughter recanted her evidence alleging that the entire defilement case was fabricated by her mother for personal gain.
