Azimio has cancelled the planned parallel Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party has cancelled the parallel Jamhuri Day celebrations that had been slated for December 12.

In a press briefing by the National Assembly Minority Leader, Opiyo Wandayi, the cancellation was informed by prior commitments that were not confirmed by the announcement of the parallel celebrations.

The Ugunja Member of Parliament said that some of the Azimio top leaders will be held up in the period leading to Jamhuri Day and after the celebrations.

"The cancellation has been occasioned by the upcoming engagements that will keep the party's top leaders away in the run-up to Jamhuri Days and a few days after," Wandayi said.

The MP, however, said that the opposition coalition party will continue to engage with the public in different meetings across the country in the coming days.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga had announced on Tuesday that the parallel meeting was to take place at Jacaranda Grounds, Nairobi.

Raila said that the meeting was to be a peaceful consultation with the public, warning the government not to interfere.

On Wednesday, the former Prime Minister led Azimio in a rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi, where he continued with his onslaught on President William Ruto's government.
