Babu Owino said the Azimio La Umoja faction relied on a fake deep state.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has divulged his interaction with former Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.

The lawmaker says things were not looking up regarding the presidential vote and it would thus be prudent if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati is arrested.

According to Babu, Chebukati had worked in cahoots with the Azimio rivals to bangle the election.

To bar the alleged machinations from going on, Chebukati was supposed to be apprehended, Babu said.

With Chebukati behind the bars, his vice Juliana Cherera would proceed to announce Raila Odinga as the duly elected president.

"There is a day I called Kibicho and told him that the way things were moving, we needed to act very fast. He asked me what to do and then I told him to arrest Chebukati immediately. Kibicho asked me to stop the war. I then wondered if he was party to that," he said.

"I doubted if he (Kibicho) was really on our side. I told him it was for him to arrest Chebukati. I learned this was indeed a fake deep state," he added.

This would be the fifth vote for Raila to lose; he first vied for the presidency in 1997 when he lost to the late Daniel Moi.

In the 2022 election, the former prime minister was trounced by President William Ruto who garnered upward of 7.1 million votes.

Raila secured over 6.9 million votes.
