The mother of a three-year-old boy whose eyes were gouged out in Kisii has been arrested.

Maureen Nyaboke, aged 28, was arrested as she was leaving the Kisii Eye hospital on Sunday where she had gone to see her son.

The visit was her first since the horrific incident happened last week.

Police pounced on her and detained her at Nyanchwa Police Station.

She was booked under OB number 33/18/2022 before transferring her to Rioma Police Station.

Police say Maureen has been working as a barmaid in Nyamakoroto in Gesima Ward, Nyamira County.

Police have disclosed that they are planning to charge her with negligence.

Details indicate that since the tragic incident occurred, the mother only emerged on Sunday when the baby had been treated and was ready to be discharged.

Three other persons, including a form 3 student from a local school, a middle-aged man, and a woman have also been arrested in connection to the incident.

The three went through a 10-hour interrogation before being released on Sunday evening.

Investigators also processed Sagini’s home in Ikuruma village, for potential additional traces of exhibits, collecting a metallic rod for examination.

Doctors handling Baby Sagin say he is ready to be discharged but can't leave the hospital owing to the circumstances surrounding the ongoing investigations at his home.
