A number of gruesome murders were reported across different parts of the country at different times of the year.

But among all those, Nairobileo.co.ke looks at three of them that shook the country to the core due to the nature of the incidents.

Murder of Frank Obegi

The Twitter influencer was among the victims of murder in the year 2022 and his incident was one of its own. Obegi’s mutilated body was found in Kijabe Forest alongside those of his three friends Moses Nyachae, Fred Obare, and Elijah Omeka in June.

Their bodies were badly mutilated and in bad shape and according to the police who discovered the bodies, one of them had been eaten by wild animals.

Preliminary investigations signalled that the four could have been involved in an online fraud of sorts which was suspected to have led to their macabre killings.

Police said that Obare was once arrested last year after he conned a man of his money in cryptocurrency deals.

However, his father, Evans Bowendo, said that his son had told him that he was involved in selling air tickets online.

"He told me he was selling air tickets online, that is what he told me when he came from home. How he later came to be murdered still puzzles me as a parent, I'm in pain," Bowendo told the media previously.

Samuel Muvota

It's a story that made headlines for weeks. Muvota was shot six times and killed at Mirema drive, Nairobi County, in May.

According to the DCI, Muvota had been involved in an ATM and SIM swapping syndicate where he was in charge.

"By the time he met his death after six bullets were pumped into his body by an unknown assailant, Muvota who headed an ATM and SIM swapping syndicate that operated like a mafia criminal organization, was a multi millionaire with several real estate properties scattered across the city, a fleet of vehicles and 7 wives all living lavishly from proceeds of stupefied patrons in clubs most frequented by revelers,” DCI stated in a previous statement.

Economic Crimes detectives who previously handled his cases said Muvota had been arrested over 30 times in the past 11 years on fraud related charges and had been in and out of court.

Detectives suspected that one of the women he had employed or an accomplice must have given him into criminals after a deal gone sour. Upon his death, police arrested the prime suspect to his murder before the suspect, Daniel Karani, was later released.

Kiambu businessman George Mwangi

His murder is one of the latest incidents that sent shock waves across the nation. The businessman’s body was found dumped in Kijabe Forest in October.

Upon his death, DCI identified his wife Gladys Chania, a former Kiambu Woman Rep aspirant, as the key suspect in the murder.

The directorate said that Mwangi, an engineer based in Kigali, Rwanda, was killed following a love affair involving him and another woman.

"The deceased’s wife Gladys Chania, a Kiambu-based politician who unsuccessfully vied for the Kiambu Woman Rep position in the last elections has been identified as the main suspect behind the murder," DCI stated at the time.

Chania was arrested but later freed on a bail of Sh1 million. She was accused alongside her farmhand Maurice Mbugua, who was also released on bail for a similar amount.
