The president affirmed that parents and guardians maltreating children would face the wrath of the law.

President William Ruto has weighed in on the Baby Junior Sagini eye saga.

The president expressed his displeasure with the attackers of the youngsters who gouged out his eyes.

Speaking on Friday, December 23, the president condemned the attackers, calling them out over the heinous act.

"I am shocked that there are parents who endanger the lives of their children. We have seen a shocking incident in Kisii. What kind of evil can that be? They have injured an innocent baby, who had no deformity.

And while we have such heartless parents, we have others who are willing to take care of them despite not being their biological parents," said the president.

The president called on the parents to be kind and look after their children.

He added that the law touching on the welfare of children, which he recently assented to, would be enforced fully.

"We will make sure that the law protecting the rights of children is fully enforced. We will see to it that no child is mistreated, either by their parents or other guardians. The Republic of Kenya will protect all our children," he said.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko and Kitutu Chache North Japheth Nyakundi have teamed up to fly the youngster to a Chinese hospital for eye implants.
