A handful of staffers at Royal Media Services (RMS) has been hospitalised in critical condition following a suspected food poisoning incident.

According to sources, staffers totaling five are battling for their lives following the incident; unfortunately, one of them died.

On Monday, December 26, the employees reportedly lined up for a buffet prepared by an outsourced catering team before they started complaining of stomach aches.

The team has been scheduled to work during the Christmas shift.

Some of the affected staffers were discharged from the hospital after responding well to treatment.

The cause of the suspected food poisoning is yet to be established.

"There are those who were adversely affected and were admitted in critical condition. Others had mild reactions and have been allowed to return to work or leave for home.

"It was a buffet so you can't really tell what exactly caused the problem," the source told this journalist.

Royal Media Services (RMS) group managing director Wachira Waruru has released a statement following the incident.

Here is the statement by Mr. Waruru;

The Royal Media Services RMS is saddened to confirm a serious case of food poisoning that affected a significant number of staff working over the Christmas shift.

In keeping with holiday period working arrangements, the RMS engaged a private food catering company to provide meals for staff working during the Christmas shift.

On Boxing Day December 26, 2022, some of the staff complained of severe stomach pains after consuming meals served within the premises of the company.

We are deeply shocked and saddened to inform the public that one staff member has unfortunately succumbed to the illness attributed to the suspected food poisoning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our deceased staff member during this difficult time. Several staffers have also been hospitalized for the suspected poisoning.

RMS is providing all the necessary support to the affected staff and suspected food poisoning incident is currently under investigation.
