A pedestrian has lost life after a modern coast bus driver lost control of the vehicle and hit him before sliding into a river in Kisii county.

The bus is said to be en route to Tanzania from Mombasa when the tragedy occured.

The incident happened on Wednesday morning and reports indicate that the bus plunged into river Masosa in Kisii Town.

The injured are being attended to in various hospitals where they have been rushed to for emergency treatment.

Kisii Central police boss Amos Ambasa confirmed the incident.

The accident came just months after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revoked the license of the Modern Coast bus service.

This is after one of its buses plunged into the Nithi Bridge leaving 33 people dead.

As a result, NTSA suspended its licence pending a probe.

"A thorough multi-agency investigation into the crash and an evaluation of the operator's safety operational standards is currently underway," NTSA' said in a statement while suspending its operations.

"We condole with the families of those who lost their loved ones in this tragic crash and wish a quick recovery to those undergoing treatment," the road safety authority added.

It is not clear when the bus was licensed again to operate.
