The company said it would redirect customers with early bookings to other bus companies.

Modern Coast Express Limited will have its fleets plying some of its major routes despite an existing suspension on its operating license.

The company announced that its buses will be operational on the Nairobi to Kampala, Nairobi to Kigali, and Nairobi to Bujumbura routes, and vice versa.

The routes that the buses won't operate on include; Nairobi to Malindi, Nairobi to upcountry, Mombasa to upcountry, and vice versa.

Passengers who had made advance bookings will be redirected to other bus companies that ply the affected routes.

However, parcel services will remain active as the buses park following the Ministry of Transport directive.

On Friday, December 30, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen ordered the license of Modern Coast Express Limited suspended with immediate effect.

"Following the 28th December accident, I have directed NTSA to suspend all operations of the Modern Coast bus company with immediate effect, as investigations into the accident continue.

"The bus company must also ensure that all passengers who had booked with them are facilitated to allow for safe and seamless travel to their destinations," CS Murkomen stated.

This came hours after one of the Modern Coast Buses was involved in an accident at River Masosa, Makutano Junction in Kisii County. The accident left one person dead and scores injured.

Modern Coast's license had been suspended in July 2022 and the suspension was lifted in November 2022 after the company complied with all the conditions that had been set for them.
