After months of leadership wrangles in Meru county, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has commenced reconciliation talks with elected leaders in the county.

The president commenced the talks Wednesday when he met a host of elected National Assembly and Senate leaders in a bid to find a solution to the existing problems.

“This evening, on January 4, 2022, I held a five-hour discussion with all elected members of the National Assembly and the Senate from Meru County,” Rigathi said.

The DP, after the meeting, expressed confidence that the wrangles will be solved even as he stated that the Mt Kenya region is united.

“Mbele iko Sawa na Mlima iko imara,” he stated.

The president who is also keen on uniting the Mt Kenya region is expected to hold a meeting with Governor Kawira Mwangaza and Members of the Meru County Assembly.

Last week, the Senate rejected the impeachment of Governor Mwangaza on the basis that the charges were not substantiated.

In a report tabled by the Committee chairperson Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, it said Meru MCAs had failed to provide enough evidence to back their allegations.

Mwangaza was accused of nepotism, illegal appointments, unlawful dismissal of the constitution, and statutory functions of county organs.

She was also accused of appointing her husband Murega Baicu as the Hustlers Ambassador and Youth Patron alongside other roadside appointments of county workers.
